Are you already thinking about how you’ll decorate your classroom for the next school year? Many teachers set an overall theme for their room decor, which they use for the whole year. But it’s also a good idea to add decor specific to the unit that you’re teaching. If you’ll be teaching about the solar system and planets, there are many options for space posters and other fun decorations! And see my earlier posts about decorating your classroom.

why use space posters to decorate?

Actually, we should reframe this question and ask why use posters to decorate at all?

Classrooms that have bright, eye-catching, and educational decor are fun to be in! There’s always something interesting to look at. And the possibilities are virtually endless for topics to base your posters on.

Space posters are, obviously, perfect for when you’re teaching a unit on the solar system or space in general. Kids love learning about space, so having different posters with the individual planets will be very engaging when you’re teaching about them.

Posters are not only useful for decor … they can also be educational! Space posters are a great way to catch students’ attention and can help them focus on a particular topic, which in this case would be the planets.

Ideas for Using Posters in Teaching

With a topic like the solar system, where there are separate posters for each planet, one idea is to hang one poster at a time and leave it up for a day or so. During this time your instruction can focus on this one specific planet.

Use the poster as a writing prompt. Have the students write a story about what it would be like to live there.

You could use the poster as the focus of an art lesson. Give students some finger paint and let them paint a picture of what they imagine an animal that lives on that planet would look like.

Read some books about space or astronauts. Then have students give you adjectives about space that you can write on the board or a chart. They can use these adjectives in their writing.

Planet Posters with Informational Text

Create an informational display for your solar system and planets science unit with these eye-catching educational posters. These solar system and planets posters contain illustrations with a short descriptive passage about each planet. The posters can be displayed on a bulletin board, used as anchor charts, or used as a visual reference tool to aid learning. The perfect addition to your space unit!

These NO PREP posters will help your students learn about the inner and outer planets and how they are similar and different. The short descriptions on each one, in conjunction with your other writing and reading activities, will help make your space unit complete!

If you like these posters, check out my other reference posters!
