Spring is finally around the corner! Celebrate the season with these fun St. Patrick’s Day writing activities!
Is March the longest month, or is it just me? The worst of winter is pretty much behind us but everyone can sure use a pick-me-up. It’s the perfect excuse to have a little lighthearted fun with St. Patrick’s Day!
Try these st. patrick’s day writing activities
Of course, it’s not St. Patrick’s Day without leprechauns! Your students will enjoy learning about some of the folklore surrounding these little fellows.
Storybooks about leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day can set a fun atmosphere for your lessons. The book Jack and the Leprechaun has beautiful illustrations and lightly touches on the myths about leprechauns, as well as using some Gaelic words.
Since they are trying to trap a leprechaun in the story, you could have your students make their own leprechaun traps! Just provide them with simple materials, such as small boxes, string, yarn, bags, glitter, plastic spoons, etc. They can use these to build their traps and then “bait” them with chocolate (those chocolate gold coins would be really fun here!), sticky tape, or warning signs.
After they’ve built their traps, they can then write about how their traps work. Let them imagine what would happen if they actually caught a leprechaun!
Doing St. Patrick’s Day writing activities is a really fun way for your students to use their imaginations! There are so many aspects of this day that you could use to inspire your students to write. They could focus on leprechauns, shamrocks, rainbows, pots of gold… all of these would make great story starters. Click here for some free printables to get your students started!
