Doing Fall writing activities with your students is a fun way to get to know your students a bit at the beginning of the school year. This is such a great time of year to inspire your students to write, tell stories, make crafts, and enjoy all the wonderful things this beautiful season has to offer! Here’s a post specifically on Fall crafts!
Fall writing ideas and inspiration
Fall is the season of senses! There is just so much to experience this season, from tasty foods like apple pie to beautiful leaves and crisp, cool weather. Help your students to notice all of the wonderful things that fall has to offer with these ideas for fall writing activities.
Pumpkin Adjectives
This activity will get your students thinking about all of the descriptive words they can come up with about Fall and pumpkins. Your kids will be writing adjectives all around and on a pumpkin outline that they can color. If you need a pumpkin template, get a free one here.
First, have your students color the pumpkin. Make sure they don’t color it too dark or the adjectives they write on the pumpkin won’t be visible.
Then they’ll write different adjectives about Fall all around an on the pumpkin. This can be done as a whole class activity or individually. Use orange or green markers to write with.
Once the students have completed their adjectives, you can take this a step further. Give them some writing paper and challenge them to use the words in sentences or a story. For the littler ones, have them write 2 or 3 sentences.
Fall Journal Writing and Prompts
With so much happening in the Fall, both inside and outside the classroom, let your students journal about it.
Use this cute Fall writing sheet template to get them started.
This already has a fun prompt that should get your students’ wheels turning!
Here are some more prompts for Fall writing:
- Write about your favorite Autumn food or drink. Why is it so special?
- What scents remind you of Fall?
- Which Fall holiday is your favorite one? Why?
- What kind of Autumn weather do you like the most?
- Tell about your favorite Fall memory. Who were you with? What were you doing?
- The leaves turn beautiful colors in the Fall. Besides the leaves, what are some other changes you notice when you look or go outside?
You could have them do one prompt per day or set up a writing station and let students choose one or two to write about.
