This school year is almost over! If you’re starting to think about end of year activities that you might want to do with your students, check out some of these fun ideas! Or see my earlier blog post for more ideas.

End of year activities – memories and fun

  • Try this Alphabet Memories activity. For each letter of the alphabet, students will write about something they learned this year that starts with that letter. Then they can illustrate their writing. This is a great way for students to think about all they’ve learned this year while practicing their writing skills.
  • Here’s a fun twist on counting down the days … count the back days instead! Use calendars and have students count different types of days they’ve had so far. For example, they could count all the Mondays, all the Fridays, all the days off school, etc. Then make a big class bar graph!
  • Have your students draw or write a reflection about the best book they read during the year. Post them on a bulletin board for next year’s students to get book title ideas.
  • Create a school-year timeline! Attach a long sheet of butcher paper to one of your walls. Break the paper up into sections for each month, and then let the kids write or draw memories for each month. Let them look over their work so they can write about what they learned. Don’t forget to mention class visitors, too!
  • Make memory bags. Give each student a brown paper lunch bag. Have them decorate the front and write reflections on the other three sides. Then have each student add 10 items from the past school year to their bags. Each one should have a note about why it’s important to them. After they’ve finished their bags, let them empty them out on their desks and do a gallery walk so the kids can see what everyone else has done.
  • Make an end-of-the-year Top 10 List. Simply have your kids create lists of their top 10 favorite things they did during the school year. Have students share with a small group or the entire class.
